the well

In the vacuum swoop of sudden darkness the light traces welled up, exploded with rays like burgeoning slips, and splashed out a phosphorescent section of sea. He fell to the well floor before a multitude in breaking waves, humanity in numbers beyond seeing. There was nothing he could comprehend: physiognomies foreign to imagination for millennia, heads and limbs seething in swells.
